Update:
NCC Wildlife reported that the fire has been contained and fire crews are currently mopping up.
‘The current conditions are of such a nature that it could stand up again,’ the update warned.
SANParks added that fire crews remain on scene.
Commenting on the fire, City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Jermaine Carelse said ‘Several resources have been deployed and firefighters [were] not only battling the extent of the fire, but also have to contend with a very strong wind which increases the intensity and spread of the fire.’
‘As a result of this incident, Philip Kgosana Drive incoming has been closed until further notice,’ added Carelse. ‘This is a very fluid situation and at this stage no property has been damaged.’
SANParks announced that NCC Environmental Services’ crews have been dispatched following reports of a fire that broke out within the lower slopes of Devil’s Peak on Friday evening.

‘Currently, firefighting efforts are underway involving teams from Table Mountain National Park NCC Environmental Services contracted crews, alongside the City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services,’ said SANParks.
In the latest update, SANParks said assistance from Volunteer Wildfire Services and the Provincial Disaster Management Centre crews has been requested.
‘Updates will be provided as the situation progresses,’ the organisation added.

Shortly after the fire broke out, Facebook user Suzie Shell shared footage on Firewatch Cape Town, a community Facebook group:
SANPark’s reiterated that the current fire on Devil’s Peak has no relation to the upcoming prescribed burn on Table Mountain that is due to take place between 2 and 4 April.
In the comment section of the organisation’s fire start announcement, Facebook user Ashlin Fenton shared a photo of the fire from Philip Kgosana Drive Inbound:
Members of the public are urged to please give way to all emergency services to ensure swift access to the mountain.
