Update:
Sections of Tygerberg Hills and the residents of Kanonberg Estate and Oude Westhof are being evacuated as the fire continues to burn.
There are 20 firefighting resources working against the fire, reports JP Smith, including 4 x 4 vehicles and two choppers.
Some fire fighters have been treated for heat exhaustion but no injuries have been reported.
The City of Cape Town’s fire services are responding to a vegetation fire on Tygerberg Hills.

According to Jermaine Carelse, spokesperson for the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services, the fire was reported at 7:35am. ‘We currently have a total of 11 firefighting resources on scene, including 4 x 4 vehicles, as the terrain is mostly gravel with steep gradients.’
Two aerial resources and a spotter plane have been activated due to the nature of the thick vegetation and pine.
Senior officers from District North have also been deployed to manage operations. No properties are in danger at this stage.
