Early June is looking bleak for motorists, following the Automobile Association’s predictions of shocking fuel price hikes.
According to the AA, petrol could go up by between R1.93 to R1.97 a litre, diesel by R1.60 a litre, and illuminating paraffin by R2.14 a litre.
However, the ‘fun’ doesn’t stop there. Given that the general fuel levy has seen a cut of R1.50, which ends this month, things could get more expensive. The GFL gave motorists a bit of breathing room when it was reduced, but June could see a different take.
The overall price of fuel will be dependent on the government’s decisions on the GFL for June. It could increase the levy from R2.35 to R3.85 for petrol, and from R2.20 to R3.70 for diesel per litre, as Fin24 reports.
With the GFL making a comeback, prices for petrol could rise by R3.50, as economist Dawie Roodt noted in speaking to EWN.
