While the rain has since subsided quite considerably, the George Disaster Management Services continues to advise members of the public to practise extreme caution today.

According to the Disaster Management Services, parts of the town saw in excess of 100mm of rain in 24 hours and that the Garden Route Dam is overflowing, with flooding reported at numerous houses as well as the Wilderness Civils Depot and Water Treatment Works.
‘Although the rainfall has decreased considerably, the George Disaster Management Services remain on standby to attend to any emergencies,’ the municipality said in a statement. ‘The municipality continues to monitor weather developments and the public will be updated via George Municipal social media channels.’
Meanwhile, the Garden Route District Municipality’s latest update revealed that George Tierkop received 158mm of rainfall over the last 24 hours (up to 8am this morning), while Wilderness received just over 160mm.
The heavy rains have caused dam levels to rise very quickly. As of midday, the Wolwedans Dam was overflowing, Duiwenhoks was at 125% and Garden Route at 100%. Calitzdorp Dam was 95% full.
