The couple was walking along the sidewalk in Three Anchor Bay when they were approached by two men who were walking towards them.
‘One of the men then tried to pepper spray the couple, and the other closed in on the husband who kicked him,’ reported ASCF admin Peter Flentov.
‘The would-be assailant backed off, possible because a group of people getting into a parked car saw the incident and began shouting at the two men, who ran off,’ he added.
The incident occurred opposite Chartleigh House, shortly after 6pm.
In the comments section, Facebook user Joanne Dix Kadish pointed out that this is not the first time an incident like this occurred.
‘Something similar happened in Milnerton,’ she said. ‘Guy was doing exercises on the lagoon, woman walked past him on her walk and next thing she knew he came up behind her and pepper sprayed her out of nowhere.’
Members of the public are advised to always be vigilant when engaging in recreational activities such as walking, running and outdoor exercising.
