Dinginto, also known as ‘Guffy’, was shot outside her home on Sunday morning and her cellphone was presumably stolen.
According to EWN, she received threats a few days before her death. Western Cape Police Commissioner Tembisile Patekile says the police are investigating whether or not she was killed in a suspected hit.
‘Guffy was sleeping at her home and at about [3am], people heard (other) people calling her name and it appears she would have opened the door…and they heard some shots. Whether it was a hit or the motive was house robbery, that will be determined by the investigation but what bothers us, is the time.’
‘What we are wanting is to arrest and track down those perpetrators and find them and that’s what we are looking at and we are saying to that person, either you bring yourself in or we are going to find you.’
The Daily Maverick reports that Dinginto was known for her ‘no-nonsense approach’ to combatting crime in Gugulethu. Her sister who lives in the backyard, Nontsomi Dinginto, says she was sleeping in the main house when she heard gunshots.
‘I prayed that we were going to find her alive when we went to check, but they shot her in the face. We found her in the bathroom. I think she was trying to get away.’
She (Lulama) was reportedly alone at the time of the shooting.
