A 38-year-old dance instructor was arrested in Gugulethu on Sunday, January 24 after he allegedly raped a 12-year-old girl and sexually assaulted more girls aged between 12 and 13.
The outraged community has since destroyed the man’s house as well as the building where the dance school was being operated, according to eNCA.
Chairperson of the street committee Thembinkosi Bula told IOL the parents of the 12-year-old had become aware that something was wrong after they saw “disturbing messages” from the teacher on her cellphone.
“In the messages they were discussing sex and when they were going to do it,” Bula said. “He was asking for nude pictures, but did not receive them. The girl has admitted that she was raped by this man.”
The man allegedly has a wife and three children of his own.
“I hope that the girls can receive counselling. We are living in fear as we can no longer trust adults around our children,” community leader Vusikhaya Silo said.
The accused will appear in court on February 2.
