An incident over the weekend saw two people shot and killed at a tavern in Sinqolamthi Street in Brown’s Farm near Philippi, with another two people sustaining severe gunshot wounds.
Nyanga police attended to the complaint of a shooting, confirmed police spokesperson, Sergeant Wesley Twigg.
‘Two female victims were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while the [two] male victims were taken to a medical facility for treatment.’
According to EWN, Twigg added that the shooting’s motive is still unknown.
Meanwhile, JP Smith confirms in a Facebook post that a stray bullet killed an off-duty LEAP officer on Sunday afternoon in Mitchells Plain.
‘The officer was walking along with his young daughter, when they got caught in gang crossfire,’ said Smith.
The 37-year-old was attached to the Hanover Park LEAP deployment.
‘He was struck by a stray bullet and succumbed to his injuries on scene,’ added Smith.
Law enforcement and metro police responded to the scene, while the Safety and Security Investigation Unit immediately deployed to assist SAPS.
Evidence was recovered from the scene, and, at the time of publication, SAPS had already activated its 72 Hour Action Plan to bring those responsible to justice in collaboration with all role players.
In another incident confirmed by Twigg, a disabled man from Worcester, Mervin Joseph, was shot and killed on Friday night in Jordan Walk, Manenberg, while waiting for his transport.
The 57-year-old caretaker at the Green Pastures Restoration Ministry in the area was gunned down in an alleged robbery-turned-violent.
Joseph was declared dead on the scene.
These shootings come just less than a week after a security guard escorting City officials was shot and killed in Khayelitsha on Wednesday, leaving another seriously injured.
Our sincerest condolences to the victims and their loved ones affected by these reported incidents, as well as the many incidents that go unreported.
