Members of the Hawks South African Narcotics Enforcement Bureau team seized a major load of schedule five and six medicines from the Cape Town International Airport cargo, en-route to London. Three suspects were apprehended for the illegal possession of these drugs.

Zinzi Hani, spokesperson for the South African Police Service, says the team confiscated 50 boxes containing Mayla Aprozalam, a short-term relief of excessive anxiety, as well as 189 bottles of Stilpane. ‘While some drugs are illegal to possess without a prescription, these schedule 5 and 6 medicine are nevertheless finding their way into the wrong hands. The illegal possession of prescription drugs is rife in the Western Cape.’
The raid was conducted via search warrants on four premises in Hanover Park.
‘Three suspects between the ages of 18 and 19 were subsequently detained for contravening the Medicine and Related Substance Act, Act 101 of 1965.’
The suspects were scheduled to appear in the Bellville court today.
