The NSRI was called into action after a horse riding accident near Yyzerfontein on the West Coast left a woman injured and had to be airlifted to a local hospital.

On Saturday, 6 April, NSRI Yzerfontein collaborated with emergency services to assist West Coast Medical ambulance services at an incident on 16 Mile Beach, north of Yzerfontein, where a female was injured after being dismounted while riding a horse.
At the time, NSRI Yzerfontein was conducting routine training on the water. The NSRI crew was brought to shore, and while WC Government Health EMS was notified of the incident, the NSRI Yzerfontein rescue vehicle responded to the scene along the beach.

Rescue craft Sonja and Spirit of DHL II responded, bringing additional NSRI rescue crew to the scene to assist, while Spirit of DHL II remained at the backline, ready to go if needed.
EMS paramedics and West Coast Medical paramedics, along with the NSRI Yzerfontein rescue crew, treated a 30-year-old female from Kraaifontein who had suffered serious injuries after falling from a horse while riding on the beach.
She was accompanied by family members, including her sister, who is a paramedic. NSRI has been informed that the horse was not injured in the incident and was transported to safety.
A Netcare 911 HEMS (Helicopter Emergency Medical Services) helicopter was dispatched, and when they arrived on the scene, a landing zone had been prepared for them on the beach.
The patient, who was secured in a stretcher and cared for by Netcare 911 paramedics, was airlifted to the hospital in a serious but stable condition. She is expected to make a complete recovery.
