Despite being a major success in February last year, the release of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship 16-round 2024 calendar on Friday sees Cape Town falling off the season 10 host-city list.
The inaugural Season 9 E-Prix event was deemed so successful that it laid claim to the prestigious title of the much-coveted ‘Race of the Year’ accolade among various other awards presented at the End of Season awards ceremony in London last year.

Cape {town} Etc previously reported that the event in the Mother City was well organised, completely sold out and portrayed the Mother City in a positive light.
The general mood surrounding the event appeared to be positive and there was speculation that the local organising committee was aiming for a five-year contract, which has yet to materialise.
The World Motor Sport Council, the FIA’s governing body, approved the preliminary 16-round calendar for season 10 in October last year and while the Mother City did not feature, there were still two vacant slots open for February 2024.
However, the official calendar release showed that neither of the slots were awarded to Cape Town.
16 Formula E races will be held across 11 cities on all continents except Africa and Australia, with season 10 of the world championship kicking off in Mexico City today.
Thereafter, rounds 2 and 3 will take place in Diriyah before round 4 in São Paulo, round 5 in Tokyo, round 6 and 7 in Misano, round 8 in Monaco followed by a series of double rounds in Berlin, Shanghai, Portland and London.
