National Environment Month is celebrated in the month of June. The South African government and environmental champions lead the way by raising awareness on all environmental issues. These range from conservationist efforts, to reducing our carbon footprint. You don’t need to be a large organisation to make a change, all small actions toward the environment do add up!
South Africans need to look at protecting our environment, biodiversity and natural heritage. According to IOL, our beloved country is one of the most biodiverse in the world. It is home to about ten per cent of the world’s fish, birds and plant species.
But it isn’t just National Environment Month. June 5 is World Environment Day. World Environment Day is the United Nations Environment Programme which aims to only provide positive environmental action, states the South African government.
If you’re not sure how to start, there will be many initiatives during the month. A beach clean up will be a great start to National Environment month.
The way we treat the environment will determine how our environment treats us and our planet in the future. Together we can make a change.
