The Western Cape government has recently released its COVID-19 procurement expenditure report for December which amounts to just under R70 million.
The 19th monthly edition of the Procurement Disclosure Report for the period of December to December 21 was released on Wednesday, 02 February, and revealed that provincial departments had spent R69.74 million of the R69.85 million that had been allocated to them. R108 877 was spent by public entities, as per the report.
According to a statement released by the department, it noted that most of the expenditure had come from the provincial Health, Public Works, Premier’s and Transport departments.
Personal protective equipment (PPE), non-PPE expenditure and the vaccination rollout programme were a few things on the expenditure list for Provincial Health while Transport and Public Works appeared to focus on human resources, transport services, accommodation and the hiring of the CTICC as a mass vaccination site, and Brackengate hospital facilities.
The Department of the Premier’s expenditure was geared towards COVID-19 communication and advertising services that were in line with prevention, awareness and behaviour changes, notes IOL.
The Department has attempted to be transparent with its expenditure when it comes to COVID-19, releasing a detailed monthly report for residents to view.
Meanwhile, Premier Alan Winde announced that the Western Cape had successfully exited the fourth wave. According to data, the Western Cape’s new case numbers have successfully dipped below 600 new cases, based on a 7-day moving average.
“The number of new cases per day based on this average is now 588” Winde expressed, and further indicated that this means the virus is reaching an endemic stage.”
