The country was plunged into stage 6 loadshedding on Friday with little warning.
The struggling power utility attributed the increase in loadshedding to the shortage of generating capacity and emergency reserves coupled with an increase in demand caused by the heatwave experienced in 5 provinces in the country.
During a media briefing on Friday, Bheki Nxumalo, Eskom’s head of generation, attributed the Stage 6 loadshedding to the heatwave, which led to heightened demand for air conditioning and fans.
