Law Enforcement officials are continuing to confiscate narcotics around Cape Town. The latest bust comes after SAPS Law Enforcement Advancement Plan (LEAP) officers swooped in on a suspected drug house in Tafelsig in Mitchells Plain where they found three packets of Tik, 33 half Mandrax tablets and 17 Heroine straws.
A 34-year old woman was then arrested for possession and dealing drugs and was taken to Mitchells Plain Police Station.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, LEAP officers were patrolling through Hanover Park around 01:30 on Thursday, September 1, when they came across a very suspicious-looking man walking in the street.
When the man saw the officer’s vehicle, he started running and was then later caught. Upon searching the man, a loaded 9mm Parabellum loaded with 13 rounds of sharp ammunition was found. The suspect was arrested for being in possession of a prohibited firearm and transported to Philippi Police Station.
The Western Cape’s Minister for Community Safety, Albert Fritz says it’s a testament, once again, to the LEAP Officers who are doing excellent work and making an impact in communities.
“The work with SAPS and Metro Police is really producing results. I want to ensure citizens that these kinds of arrests are happening all the time, and they are a sign that we are making steady progress in our Safety Plan,” Fritz said.
The Minister also reiterated that the Department of Community Safety will continue to stand behind Law Enforcement and continue to work together to make communities safer for all citizens.
