While we may be in the midst of a loadshedding crisis, courtesy of Eskom and its constant shortage of electricity; we most certainly still have a surplus of humour in Mzansi.
Saffas tend to have a knack for turning any given sociopolitical situation – no matter how difficult or serious it might be – into pure comic relief. As we can see, loadshedding is no exception.
Since its implementation a few years ago, social media platforms have all been buzzing with a series of memes, gifs and skits that make light of these dark times we’re facing (yes, the pun was very much intended).
Multi-award winning journalist, Athi Mtongana asked her Twitter followers to use memes to “describe the feeling you get when the lights go off, at that precise moment from light to complete darkness” when loadshedding takes over.
Suffice it to say, the responses had us giggling, ugly-crying and face-palming all at the same time.
Take a look:
If defeated was a person.
