The Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM) confirmed the death of firefighter, Colin Reynhard, today. He was killed in a tragic road accident on November 4 along Mitchell’s Pass.

The firefighting team were returning from successfully putting out a blaze in the area when the accident occurred. They were on  their way back to the base in Worcester when the fire truck veered off the road due to wet road conditions and rolled down an embankment.

Reynhard, aged 55, passed away at the scene – two other firefighters were admitted to hospital for observation. Reynhard was an experienced firefighter who joined the CWDM in 2003.

Executive Mayor of the CWDM Helena von Schlicht called Reynhard a great firefighter and extended her condolences to his family and friends in a statement.

“This is immensely sad news, the loss of a firefighter at any time is tragic, however this loss has occurred so early in our fire season which officially started on 1 November 2018. This passing brings into focus the danger that our fire fighters face daily. On behalf of our Council and fellow colleagues, we extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Colin Reynhard, who made the ultimate sacrifice,” she said.

We send out deepest condolences to the firefighters family at this difficult time.
