The N1 highway was closed to traffic on Monday morning after a truck overturned, causing major traffic delays.

The truck, which was reportedly lying on its side after hitting a barrier, was blocking all lanes on the highway’s outbound section after the Plattekloof off-ramp.
According to News24, Western Cape Department of Infrastructure spokesperson Jandre Bakker confirmed that the truck had crashed through the median barrier and overturned.

Social media images and videos showed the truck on its left side, with the cab and a portion of the trailer on the embankment next to the road.

At 8:30am, TrafficSA tweeted that the road remained closed and that traffic had been brought to a standstill with a solid queue of cars from the Century City side.
The road was littered with debris, and traffic inbound had slowed as road users slowed to look at the scene.
According to Kevin Jacobs, a spokesperson for the City of Cape Town Traffic Services, staff were attending to a truck that had overturned on the N1 outbound at Plattekloof Road.
He added that traffic on the N1 outbound was being diverted over the Plattekloof road offramp, back onto the N1 outbound. Motorists have been advised to proceed with caution.
It is unclear whether there were any injuries as a result of the accident.
