On Wednesday evening, 29 November, a 34-year-old man drowned at Saunders’ Rocks Beach in Bantry Bay. The drowning was reported to authorities, who later recovered his body.
According to News24, Craig Lambinon, the spokesperson for the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), said the City’s water rescue network was alerted at 7:33pm to search for the man.

NSRI Bakoven and NSRI Table Bay rescue swimmers, Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services, City Law Enforcement, the SA Police Service, Western Cape Government Health EMS Rescue Squad and ambulance services all banded together in response to the drowning.
‘On arrival at the scene, a local man, believed to be 34 years old, in a critical condition from injuries sustained in what appears to be a drowning accident, was treated by paramedics. A bystander doctor and rescue services assisted,’ Lambinon explained.

‘Sadly, despite extensive efforts to save the man’s life, the man was declared deceased.’
The incident has now been handed over to the police. According to Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk, Sea Point police registered an inquest for investigation after the man’s body was recovered.
‘A post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death,’ said van Wyk.
