A father allegedly gunned down his entire family in Mfuleni in the early hours of Thursday morning. The 33-year-old mother and her two daughters were found dead in their home.

Speaking to the Daily Voice, a police source told the publication that the family’s neighbours had called after they heard screams and gunshots at approximately 1 am.

“The two girls were lying in their beds with gunshot wounds in the head and the father was lying next to the bed, also dead. The father left a suicide note on the couch where he admitted to shooting the family, before turning the gun on himself and committing suicide,” the source said. “There were only four cartridges on the scene and the cops found his gun next to him.”

The daughters were 10 and 6 years old respectively, and the couple was reportedly married for a decade before the horrible events unfolded.

“The circumstances surrounding the death of a family of four are being investigated following an incident during the early hours at a residence in Bardale Village, Mfuleni,” Leuitenant-Colonel André Traut of South African Police Services (SAPS) said in a statement. “It is suspected that the male person was responsible for their deaths. Three murder cases and a death inquest have been opened.”
