A video on social media, showing a gunman shooting a patron at popular Gordon’s Bay eatery Talla’s Tavern at close range has shocked viewers. The victim was rushed to hospital shortly after the incident but has since died. The incident happened on Thursday afternoon [September 10] and was recorded on CCTV footage that has since been widely circulated.

In the video, a man is seen enjoying his meal when an unknown biker gets off his bike, crosses the road and heads straight for the patron. The biker, who keeps his hemlet on, can be seen with what appears to be a gun in his right hand. Seconds later, the patron drops to the floor. The biker then crosses back over the road to his motorcycle, with a car slowing down to allow him to cross safely.

According to South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Colonel André Traut, a 40-year-old man was shot and wounded at 2.45pm on Thursday, September 10. He was rushed to hospital and later died there.

This has resulted in the case changing from attempted murder to murder.

“The suspect fled the scene on a bike and is yet to be arrested,” Traut said.
