Viewers watching the latest season of MasterChef SA – which hit television screens on 28 February (M-Net channel 101) – will have immediately noticed the new and impressive food pantry, and Capetonians may also have noticed a very familiar setting if you’ve managed to visit the V&A Waterfront’s Makers Landing.
But before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s have a look at the main ingredient of a winning MasterChef season – the food. According to the organisers, this season is filled to the brim with delicious produce from the season’s new title sponsor, Pick n Pay.
If you love watching this delicious show and love helping the environment, you’ll be happy to know that the pantry boasts a strong focus on sustainability including a de-packaged fresh produce offering and a packaging-free zone. It also boasts the latest fridge technology, further minimising the impact on the environment.
Andrew Mills, Group Executive: Marketing at Pick n Pay, says sponsoring the show provided a great platform to showcase the absolute best in fresh at Pick n Pay and its tantalising approach to surpassing the demands of foodies.
“We’ve innovated a lot in the last year to bring customers the freshest produce and ingredients, with an ambition to be the foodie destination of choice for customers. The beautiful and aspirational pantry we constructed for MasterChef South Africa lets us display the amazing range we have in stores for customers.”
Now, let’s look at another factor that makes MasterChef a hit amongst viewers – the setting. Makers Lading is a relatively new addition to the culinary scene in Cape Town, but it’s managed to snag one of the biggest gigs around.
It has set aside part of its triple volume events space to become a film set for MasterChef, and all of the cooking action in the show’s 20 episodes takes place against the stunning backdrop of Cape Town’s commercial harbour and the Cape Town Cruise Terminal.
But what makes this piece of information even more special for viewers is the fact that foodies and fans are able to interact with judges and contestants every weekend at Makers Landing.
Make sure you head down to Makers Landing at 11:00 on Saturdays, from 5 March until 26 March, to meet the judges in person and watch them show off their cooking prowess with masterful public food demos – yum.
Those looking to spend a lazy Sunday strolling the V&A Waterfront can add an additional attraction to their list as visitors can meet the MasterChef SA contestants who were eliminated from the previous week’s episode. Revel in the stories of each contestant’s personal food journey as you get insider hints and tips that they have gleaned from being in the MasterChef kitchen.
Grab your chef’s hat and tune in on weekdays from Monday to Thursday with the finale set to air on Thursday, 31 March.
