Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis is in the United States, seeking to boost Cape Town’s economy through increased American investment.
The US, already the largest foreign direct investment source for Cape Town, has seen companies like Microsoft, Roche and Amazon invest in the city.
Hill-Lewis seeks to attract more US businesses by highlighting Cape Town’s growth, job creation and infrastructure plans.

‘More and more global companies are investing in Cape Town, bringing new jobs to our city. Given the huge contribution the US makes to job-creating foreign direct investment in Cape Town, I am glad to be in the USA to share more about our city’s bright future and to invite even more US businesses to come and invest in Cape Town,’ said the mayor.
Hill-Lewis presented Cape Town as a city of opportunity at the US Chamber of Commerce. He said that its infrastructure investment, robust job creation and thriving ICT and tourism sectors far outpace other South African cities.
He noted the record-breaking tourist numbers and Cape Town’s leadership in energy security and ease of doing business and explained how the city is working on key economic reforms such as taking operational control of the passenger rail service, formalising the devolution of more policing powers and involving the private sector in the Port of Cape Town.
