Bonita Jones, Milnerton Surf Lifesaving Club chair, says his legacy lives on in the story of the club, of which he was an active member since 2010. ‘He fulfilled many roles in the club and touched the lives of so many young people, not only at Milnerton but in the broader lifesaving community. Often, on any given day during the voluntary lifesaving season, you could find him at the club, checking in on the lifeguards, fixing boards and just being present. He had his finger firmly on the pulse of Milnerton Surf Lifesaving Club.’

After joining the club, the avid sportsman offered his services as a nipper coach and assisted in Milnerton’s nipper development before moving on to coach lifeguards. Table Talk reports that he was the chairman of the club in 2013 and 2014. When the club didn’t have enough senior lifeguards on its team in 2015, he volunteered and was elected captain for three seasons.
Jones says his time as club captain helped nurture the lifesaving club that exists today thanks to his enthusiasm for the lifesaving movement. He received a meritorious service award in 2019 for his contribution to the club’s growth.
Support and condolences poured in on social media after the announcement of his passing. He is survived by his wife, three children, and his parents.
