The Motorcyclists Association Western Cape has noted an increase in attacks on motorcycles on the R300 and the N2.

MAWC’s Marco Worship told Cape Talk that criminals are throwing bricks at motorcyclists while they ride, aiming to rob them after causing them to crash. ‘The modus operandi is to either incapacitate the rider or the motorcycle.’

Last month, a biker was killed due to such an attack. ‘We are exposed, every part of our motorcycle is exposed,’ says Worship, adding that motorcyclists are not as protected as drivers in cars.

He adds that criminals are getting smarter. ‘They take your cellphone, wallet and very expensive helmets and leathers and gear. Helmets cost from R5000.’

As per EWN, the association has engaged with provincial and local traffic authorities on the attacks.
