A Mr D deliveryman, who was accused of raping a client while delivering food to her in Wynberg, has been sent to Pollsmoor Prison. Cassiem Imani (43) made his first appearance in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court earlier this week.

As reported by IOL, the intital police statement reflected that the 26-year-old victim had told police she had ordered food from Spur and that Imani told her she was beautiful and that he loved her before pushing her against a wall.

“She fell to the ground and he penetrated her vagina. His pants were open, but she does not know how he did it,” a source told IOL.

The woman struck Imani with a bowl, and ran to the study, barracading herself and calling for help. Police were investigating a rape case, but while appearing in court, Imani faces attempted rape charges.

The State prosecutor said that Imani allegedly attempted to pull the woman’s underwear off, but did not succeed in doing so as she escaped to the study. Bail would also be opposed as Imani is considered a flight risk because he is a Malawian national.

The case has been postponed until July 17 to determine whether Imani is in the country legally or not.
