The Theewaterskloof Municipality is attending to damaged roads at Botrivier in the Overberg following a heavy rainstorm in the area late Tuesday afternoon [November 17].

The rainstorm caused many roads, houses and informal dwellings to flood. According to SABC News, about 50 millimetres of rain fell within a 15-minute period.

No one has been injured and no structural damage has been reported, according to municipal spokesperson Hugo Geldenhuys. The municipality is assisting community members in cleaning up their homes and other structures.

“Substantial damage was caused to streets and this morning, the maintenance team started with repair and clean-up work,” said Geldenhuys. “The municipality will also send a municipal team to commence with the scraping of the dust roads and repair work to the tarred roads.”
