Nearly 200 people have been left in the cold after a fire ripped through Waterworks informal settlement in Grabouw over the weekend.
66 shacks, a bus, a car, and three houses were gutted by the blaze which began due to strong winds at Elgin Fruit Juices and quickly spread to Gaffley’s transport company and the informal settlement, as per News24.
Relief efforts took place on Saturday with Gift of the Givers and Home Affairs officials on the ground to assist with hot meals and necessary items. Some residents have been accommodated at local community halls, however, many remained onsite in order to protect their remaining belongings, reports EWN.
