NSRI Knysna duty crew recovered a female body in the water near Belvedere on Knysna Lagoon on Thursday morning.
Around 7:43am, NSRI Knysna rescue swimmers and the South African Police Services (SAPS) responded to the scene following eyewitness reports from a foreign couple.

The NSRI rescue craft, JayTee IV, was accompanied by the SAPS Water Policing and Diving Services (WPDS). The Western Cape Government’s health EMS was also alerted.
On arrival, members recovered a coloured female body wearing a maroon top and dark, long pants. She is suspected to be in her 40s and may have been fishing at the time of her death.
She was declared deceased on scene, and her body was taken to the NSRI station 12 Knysna rescue base. Government Health Forensic Pathology Services then took over the care of her body.
The woman remains unidentified.
