One person was fatally shot and a second wounded when gunmen opened fire in a Cape Town restaurant on Thursday afternoon.

It is believed that the deceased man was dining with a woman at an eatery in Klipfontein Road, Rondebosch, when unknown attackers opened fire on them.
Nearby shoppers fled at the sound of the gunshots, finding shelter in outlets.
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, officers were called to the scene shortly before 3:30pm on Thursday and found the man’s body on the floor.

He was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.
He added that the woman was injured and used private transport to get to hospital.
Police have made no arrests.
“The unknown suspects, who fled the scene, are yet to be arrested. The motive for the attack is yet to be determined,” he added.
Mowbray police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.

The incident comes a matter of hours after three suspects were arrested in the vicinity for allegedly abducting a woman in Muizenberg before driving her around to draw money.
Mayco Member for Safety and Security Alderman JP Smith said the victim was incredibly grateful to the officers for intervening when they did, “but this could have had a very different outcome”.
Last week, the local City police recorded multiple arrests, with suspects being charged with various criminal activities including kidnapping, drug charges and traffic violations.
“Law enforcement officers made 283 arrests and the Public Emergency Communication Centre (PECC) received 2,039 calls over the past weekend. Of these, 741 were calls for medical assistance and 110 were to report incidents of violent assault.”
