The humanitarian aid organisation Gift of the Givers has confirmed that one South African remains in Sudan. Imtiaz Sooliman, the organisation’s founder, stated that they were collaborating with the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (Dirco) to assist the South African, who reportedly doesn’t have a passport or documentation.
Twenty-two South Africans who had been working on a ship in Port Sudan in the Red Sea since last September arrived in Cape Town on Thursday. The 22 South Africans, along with two Tanzanians, were working for Africa Projects Consultants, a ship repair company, and had chosen to evacuate Sudan with their employer.

According to EWN, the South African citizen who is currently still in Sudan was not a member of this crew.
Sooliman stated that they were working hard to get him out of the country. He told EWN:
‘We’re busy processing assistance for him together with Dirco [the Department of International Relations and Cooperation] as he has no passport and no documentation, but it’s safe to say that he’s safe right now. He’s with a group of people, and we’re hoping to get him out of the country within the next few days.’
Ali Sablay, a spokesperson for Gift of the Givers, expressed hope that all those still trapped in Sudan could be safely evacuated.
‘There are many people from other countries trapped at the moment in Sudan. We hope their countries can speedily bring them back home,’ he said.
