Faced with the uncertainties of the day ahead, JP Smith and the City’s Joint Operations Command Centre arranged for guarded escorts through the night to protect deliveries of bread into areas that have been at risk for the past week.
The operation’s focus extended to vigilant monitoring of Golden Arrow and MyCiti buses and other various public transport interchanges.

In anticipation of potential instability, guarded escorts facilitated the delivery of bread to areas that have been at risk for the past week.
Under the cover of darkness, multiple shipments of Blue Ribbon bread successfully reached local establishments, spanning stores, kiosks and spaza shops.
‘Operation: Bread Winner’ was set into motion shortly after midnight, making deliveries to key areas such as Langa, Masiphumele, Kraaifontein, Delft, Khayelitsha and Nyanga.
‘Regardless of what was to come today, we would ensure that shelves would be stocked with bread over the next few days!’ stated Alderman Smith.
He continued:
The road belongs to everyone. Let’s respect each other; let’s respect the rules of the road.’
