As confirmed by the Department of Correctional Services spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo, Pistorius was officially granted parole, starting on 5 January, 2024, marking his transition into the community corrections system.
He will stay with his uncle, Arnold Pistorius, in Waterkloof, Pretoria, during his parole. Security measures were tightened around Arnold Pistorius’ residence following Oscar’s release.

Steenkamp’s mother, June Steenkamp, expressed acceptance of the parole conditions, although they have not been publicly disclosed. She acknowledged that parole was part of the country’s justice system, reinforcing her faith in it.
Initially convicted of culpable homicide for the tragic incident on Valentine’s Day 2013, where Steenkamp was fatally shot, Pistorius has consistently maintained that he mistook her for an intruder.
However, subsequent legal proceedings led to his conviction for murder, sentenced to 13 years and five months behind bars, under the principle of ‘dolus eventualis’, signifying his foreseeability of the potential lethal outcome of his actions.
