Another integrated takedown operation by the National Counterfeit Unit in Bellville resulted in the seizure of counterfeit goods worth over R80 million as well as the arrests of two Somalian suspects.
This comes after fake clothing, watches and other apparel valued at R5.1 million were confiscated from a shopping complex near the taxi rank in Bellville in January.

Since its establishment in November last year, the National Counterfeit Unit, together with its crime-fighting partners, have seized counterfeit goods worth over R300 million.
‘To date, the team also seized 31 vehicles which were used in the commission of the crime and arrested 23 suspects of different nationalities during a number of takedown operations across the country,’ said van Wyk.
‘In addition, police also seized various manufacturing equipment such as sewing-, embroidery-, and silk-screening machines which were used to counterfeit unbranded items.’
These takedown operations form part of SAPS’ ongoing efforts to stop illicit trade across the country.
Last week, the unit confiscated counterfeit goods worth over R9 million in the Johannesburg CBD during a similar takedown operation.
