A Pick n Pay store at Waterstone Village in Somerset West was temporarily closed after it was discovered that one of their staff members contracted the coronavirus.

The staff member was sent home on Thursday, April 9, after reporting that she was not feeling well. She has since tested positive for COVID-19.

The company has begun the process of tracing her contacts and requesting them to self-isolate. The store will reopen today, Tuesday April 14.

“We have been busy deep cleaning the store as a precaution and it will reopen tomorrow morning,” said Pick n Pay in a statement.

According to mall manager Daphne Kriel, the rest of Waterstone Village was not affected and shops remained open throughout this period.

This past weekend, a Shoprite store in Athlone closed its doors until further notice after an employee tested positive for COVID-19. This is the second store Shoprite has had to close, with a store in Bothasig closing after an employee tested positive earlier this month.
