The City of Cape Town’s firefighters sprang into action in the early hours of Monday morning as a storage facility in Parow went up in flames.
Firefighters received the call just after 5:00am and were alerted to a fire in the area of Parow East, reports EWN.
Around 40 firefighters are currently on the scene as they attempt to contain the blaze which was still raging at around 8:00am.
“The City’s Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the fire at about 5.25am today, Monday, May 23, and, at the moment, there are 40 firefighters, 10 firefighting appliances as well as an aerial appliance on the scene of the fire on the corner of Fritz Spilhaus Avenue and Jean Simon Street,” said City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Services, Jermaine Carelse.
There is no word on the cause of the fire, but thankfully, no injuries have been reported.
According to Carelse, the roof of the storage facility has caved in and the firefighters are battling to ensure that structures nearby are not affected by the blaze.
