A Cape Town pigeon has made its nest in an unconventional way – settling into its Mitchells Plain spot, it built a nest using old, discarded cable ties.
A picture of the pigeon’s innovative creation was shared on Facebook by Clive Anthony.
“My wife took this picture at Mitchells Plain Hospital of a bird who made his nest with cable ties. It’s sad that they have to make nests with our rubbish,” read the post.
Various people commented on the post, with one user joking that “it’s called recycling!”.
Reinforced by some of the comments, pigeons seem to have a bad reputation at making nests. As they often build in urban settings and on ledges, their nests generally look unsanitary and a bit unattractive.
Anthony has since posted an update, showing the pigeon’s hatched squabs settling into their new home.
