The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has announced a series of essential maintenance works that will temporarily disrupt water supply in various areas, Cape {town} Etc reports.
Scheduled to take place between the 17th and 23rd of October 2026, these critical interventions are aimed at ensuring the integrity and reliability of the city’s water supply infrastructure.
Residents are advised to prepare accordingly, especially as some areas may experience minimal to no water supply during this period.
Beginning on Saturday, 17th October, water supply will be halted in Crossroads and parts of Philippi from 09:00 to 18:00. This interruption is necessary to replace a faulty air-valve and control valve on the 700mm-diameter water main serving the area. Consumers are urged to store sufficient water in clean, sealed containers before this shutdown.
On Sunday, 18th October, the City will also be shutting off water in Sanlam Centre, Klipkop, Ravesmead (both east and west), Beaconvale, Florida, and Parow Valley from 10:00 to 22:00 for urgent repairs to a leak in the 375mm-diameter water supply main located on De La Rey Road, Parow. The disruption is expected to result in no water availability in these locations throughout the day. Additionally, water tankers will be deployed to assist residents in need.
Further interruptions are set for Epping Industria 1 on Sunday, 18th October, from 09:00 to 16:00 to facilitate the replacement of faulty fire hydrants. Residents in Gunners Circle and surrounding streets should expect no water during this timeframe. Similar maintenance will take place in Witsands and part of Protea Park on Tuesday, 20th October, followed by a shutdown in Sonstraal Heights on the same day to replace a faulty water meter.
One of the more extended maintenance activities will occur at the Tygerberg Reservoir. From 06:00 on Wednesday, 21st October through to 14:00 on Friday, 23rd October, a section of the pipeline will be temporarily shut down for repairs to the bulk water meter.
Residents in nearby areas like Avondale and Plattekloof 1 may experience disruptions, but the reservoir will remain operational, ensuring some supply through alternative pipelines.
On the same day, parts of Woodstock will see water supply interruptions as the maintenance team conducts pipe and valve replacements using trenchless technology between 09:30 and 18:00. Affected streets include Ravenscraig Road and Victoria Road.
In addition to these planned disruptions, a visual leak detection operation will be conducted in Dennemere, Diep River, Strand, Belgravia, and Bellville from Monday, 19th October to Friday, 23rd October, with no expected disruptions to water services. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to manage water demand more effectively.
Residents are also reminded that zero-pressure tests and conditional assessments of the water supply network from Tuesday, 20th October through Thursday, 22nd October, may result in localized disruptions in areas such as Saxenberg, Tamboerskloof, and Khayelitsha.
