According to community groups, the shooting occurred at Riebeeckstraat Primary School in Extension 11. DA member Dylan Pieters released a statement noting that the bullet grazed the learner’s ear and that she has been transported to the hospital.
Pieters added his dismay at the incident: ‘How many more of our children must still be killed or struck by stray bullets? Why haven’t the counsellor requested LEAP officers to be deployed to Belhar? Ext11 has become the murder capital of Belhar and Batavia drive has become the robbery highway on the ward. How many times have the community made their concerns known to the counsellor and nothing was done?’
