Today, the National Commissioner of the South African Police, General Fannie Masemola, presided over the destruction of narcotics worth a total of R90 million in Cape Town.
The drugs amassed from policing operations in the Eastern and Western Cape included tik, cocaine and mandrax.
This marked the fourth drug destruction of this financial year, following a similar event in Gauteng last October, where drugs valued at R800 million were destroyed.

The South African Police Service’s (SAPS) Forensic Science Laboratory’s Chemistry Section conducts regular forensic testing on all confiscated narcotics. Today’s destruction followed a rigorous process and a court order that verified the finalisation of related cases.
