The Urban Mobility Directorate has announced a significant road resurfacing project in Newlands and Rondebosch. This project aims to enhance the road infrastructure, increase road safety and prolong the longevity of key transport routes.
The roadworks are scheduled to begin this week, taking place on weekdays between 9am and 4pm. Some night work from 9pm to 4am and Sunday work from 7am to 6pm may also be necessary to ensure the project is completed on time, which is set to finish on 22 December, 2023.

The specific roads included in this resurfacing project are:
1. Main Road: The work on Main Road spans from Klipper Road to Campground Road. This portion of Main Road plays a crucial role in connecting suburbs and facilitating the movement of residents and commuters.
2. Belmont Road: The project extends along Belmont Road, running from Main Road to Liesbeek Parkway in Rondebosch.

3. Park Road: The Urban Mobility Directorate’s plans also include Park Road, from Liesbeek Parkway to Milner Road on the Eastbound Carriageway in Rondebosch.
The road resurfacing project involves several essential components, including trimming trees and resurfacing sidewalks along the road shoulders, creating a safer environment for pedestrians.
To enhance the quality and longevity of the roads, the existing surface will be removed and replaced with new asphalt. All road markings will be reinstated to ensure clear traffic guidance and improved road safety. The project will also involve the installation of bridge joints on Belmont Road.

The City of Cape Town recognises the importance of minimising disruptions to residents and road users during these infrastructure improvements. To this end, lane closures will be kept to a minimum and alternative routes are recommended for motorists during the construction period.
Pedestrians are also encouraged to exercise caution around the construction sites.
