It feels as if we’re in the midst of a dystopian novel. President Jacob Zuma’s recent cabinet reshuffle has caused major upset, particularly with the dismissal of Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and his deputy Mcebisi Jonas. The drama has been brewing over the past week, and the announcement came just after midnight on Friday. Since the news broke, the country has been in an uproar, the rand has plunged and Zuma’s laughter at a parliamentary sitting had not helped the situation.
