According to HEART FM, the Luyolo construction is part of the broader Airport Precinct project.
The aim is to provide “housing opportunities for people from Gugulethu – specifically the elderly, people living with disabilities and backyard dwellers.”
This year alone City officials have come on record highlighting issues of sabotage deterring projects from moving forward timeously.
Metrorail has expressed efforts to revive the railway networks currently not optimally functional but claims they have been met with vandalism that’s delayed progress.
Eskom officials have also voiced similar issues pertaining to the power stations which is one of the reasons the country has had to face load shedding up to Stage 6 this year.
In connection with recent events at Luyolo, The Western Cape Infrastructure Department project might have to pause construction again.
Infrastructure MEC, Tertuis Simmers said, “The continued lawlessness and thuggery by these so-called construction mafias is causing unnecessary delays in the finalisation of this noteworthy project. I wish to extend my well wishes and speedy recovery to the brave officers who protected the project site. In addition, the colleagues who witnessed this horrific incident are currently receiving trauma counselling.”
