Shots rang out on Wednesday morning outside the home of Western Cape Deputy Judge President Patricia Goliath.
The shooting was confirmed by Hawks spokesperson Brig Nomthandazo Mbamba, however, no further details have been revealed, citing “security reasons.”
“Yes, we can confirm there was a shooting,” Mbambo said.
According to Daily Maverick, a security guard who was posted outside of Goliath’s Cape Town home was reportedly shot in the hand by two shooters who are currently still at large.
Speaking to News24 in 2020, Goliath revealed that she had been warned that a plot was underway to assassinate her. A preliminary report was conducted and handed over to the police, the State Security Agency and the Ministry of Justice and Correctional Services.
Judge President John Hlophe was allegedly fingered in the initial threat analysis, but he rejected this as ‘baseless.’
However, Hlophe’s wife, judge Gayaat Salie-Hlophe, had indicated that Goliath had attempted to influence her to lay false criminal charges against her husband which she referred to as an “old black man,” reports Times Live.
