The Animal Welfare Society of SA issued a statement drawing attention to the baboon troops that have lost their homes and food resources due to the fire on the mountain slopes of Simon’s Town.
The fire, which started on Tuesday and is not yet contained, has spread to Murdock Valley, Miller’s Point and Plateau Road.

The Animal Welfare Society of SA said its team is currently on the ground, assisting with any animal-related emergencies and evacuations.
The baboons have come down into the town and are very distressed.
The public should not approach or feed the animals but rather contact The Animal Welfare Society of SA on 082 601 1761
What you can do to help:
- Put out fresh drinking water around your home, but no food and keep your pets away from them.
- Non-residents are advised to steer clear of the greater Simon’s Town area.
