Springbok player Elton Jantjies has been released on bail after being arrested at OR Tambo International Airport on Sunday morning.
The arrest was confirmed by the South African Rugby Union and James Adams, Jantjies’ agent from In Touch Sports.
The fly half had been travelling on a flight from Dubai to Johannesburg with reports suggesting that he had been cuffed on arrival due to damaging property on the flight, reports EWN.
In a statement released by Adams, the sports agent claimed that Jantjies had damaged a light but no additional details were given regarding the incident.
“He is okay, we have been in contact over WhatsApp with Elton and gathering all information and getting a debrief on what happened.”
According to News24, Jantjies allegedly spent 10 minutes banging on a toilet door until his fists bled as a rattled air hostess hid in the cubicle. However, these details are currently speculation with Adams stating that the incident has been “unnecessarily heightened.”
“Our client, however, remains compliant with the investigation process and will address this matter with the seriousness it beckons,” the statement read.
