The weekend just got a bit darker for Capetonians and the rest of the country as Eskom has just announced stage 2 load shedding will run into the weekend.

Stage 2 load shedding will be implemented today from 9am, Thursday 20 until 6am Saturday 22, 2020. This as a result of the loss of an additional three units overnight, which has increased the shortage in capacity.

Eskom also predicts a high probability of load shedding throughout the weekend to replenish reserves for the upcoming week.

“Unplanned outages or breakdowns were at 11 938MW as at 5.30am this morning, while planned maintenance is 4 654MW,” says Eskom in a statement. “Emergency reserves are currently being utilised to supplement the shortage in capacity. While we regret the short notice, we have communicated earlier that any shift on the system will require the implementation of loadshedding at short notice. We will provide regular updates.”
Eskom advises residents to use electricity sparingly to reduce demand. Visit www.SavingElectricity.org.za for tips to save electricity and follow load-shedding developments on www.capetown.gov.za/loadshedding.
