South Africans have been slapped with the possibility of Stage 6 loadshedding from 5pm this evening. Eskom made the announcement today, and citizens are outraged.
Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter made the announcement at a media briefing on Tuesday morning. De Ruyter said that Stage 6 loadshedding is a high possibility today after Eskom lost 10 generating units overnight.
What does stage 6 mean for South Africans?
Stage 6 doubles the frequency of stage 3, meaning one could be affected 18 times for four days for up to four-and-a-half hours at a time. Depending on where they live, some citizens can also expect loadshedding 18 times over eight days for about two hours at a time. According to Eskom, the grid needs to shed 6000MW of power during this stage.
