The Two Oceans Aquarium Education Foundation have gone above and beyond to ensure that the little critters that call the ocean home are well taken care of.
However, it’s the foundation’s Sea Turtle Rescue Programme that has been its crowning jewel, saving hundreds of turtles, nurturing them back to full strength, and eventually releasing them back into the wild with an incredible 85% success rate.
Now, the turtle team is shedding a few joyful tears as they say goodbye to a few more turtles – but this story has a happy ending.
While many of us would classify 2021 as a terrible year due to the pandemic and a few surprise lockdowns, we’re happy to report that it has been a successful year for the rehabilitation of sea turtles and has allowed for the release of 44 turtles!
So, just how does the team keep themselves busy following a successful release? Well, it’s time for them to switch up their routine, prepare for the season ahead and reflect on the past year. ‘Turtle jenga’ is also something that they keep themselves busy with, according to the foundation.
Here’s a look at the brave sea turtles who have managed to gain their strength and finally set their flippers back into the icy waters of the ocean.
