Sun International released an urgent warning to holidaymakers not to respond to any social media posts offering dinner and accommodation at any Sun City hotel for only R25 a night.
The scam has been doing the rounds on social media, offering the deal as part of Sun City’s 50th or 55th anniversary (depending on the scam). However, Sun City only opened in 1979, making the resort 44 years old.

‘This is a scam clearly intended to defraud people, and we’re asking members of the public to be careful when responding to special offers that do not come directly from Sun City or Sun International,’ Sun City’s General Manager Brett Hoppe said in a statement.
Hoppe adds that before replying to any accommodation offer for any Sun International property, people must confirm that it is a valid deal by visiting the official website.
There is also a direct-booking platform, which informs customers of all current deals. Alternatively, residents are advised to use a registered tour operator.

The group said it has been inundated with calls looking for confirmation of the deal since it started showing up on social media, according to Business Tech.
The various scams appear to be sponsored posts with a link to a Sun City-branded online shop with the URL ‘myshopify.com,’ indicating that it does not originate from the Sun International group.
The scam also insists that the R25 payment is required to reserve your spot, as only 200 bookings are available for this deal. Payment must also be made via credit card.
With Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and the holiday season quickly approaching, many opportunists will be taking advantage of the fact that discounts, specials and deals of all sorts will be on offer, making it easy for people to fall for scams.
